With a shared commitment to sustainability, the overarching vision was to create a textile woven from natural materials, and we therefore created a wool rich composition – a fibre which is not only renewable but is also beneficial for passenger wellbeing, health, and safety as a result of its ability to improve indoor air quality and inherent flame retardancy. As Mahsa Haddad, Industrial Designer & CMF Expert at Neomind, comments on the joint development: “Collaboration is at its best when all involved have the same vision and goals, and that was exactly the case with the IdeasTrain - we were committed to using natural, sustainable materials, delivering an exceptional passenger experience, and truly changing the way we travel in the future.”
Deutsche Bahn, IdeasTrain 2021
A truly pioneering project by Deutsche Bahn, the largest railway company in the world, the IdeasTrain (Ideenzug) is a revolutionary look at what exactly the future of rail travel may hold.
First established in 2017 with the launch of a 30-metre-long conceptual vehicle which showcased products and solutions from some of the largest and most influential companies in the transport industry, including textiles by Camira, Deutsche Bahn has once again explored what could be possible with the IdeasTrain 2021 - and we are extremely proud to be involved in such a groundbreaking and exciting project.
Following our successful collaboration on the first IdeasTrain in 2017, we worked with leading transport design studio Neomind and Deutsche Bahn to create a soft grey, wire woven textile featured on the seats within the IdeasTrain Regio. To gain an insight into the design inspiration behind the fabric's creation, and the role it plays within the future of rail interiors, watch the short film below.
